A red and yellow light is used for permanent hair removal. The red light increases the temperature of the melanin at the centre of the hair shaft, thereby destroying the pilosebaceous follicle. The yellow light interrupts the flow of blood to the cells, which prevents the hair from growing back. Many IPL systems use only red light. Blonde hair, however, is not very sensitive to red light, as this type of hair contains very little pigment. Chromolite™ is effective for treating unwanted blonde hair.
